The park
is found on a secluded peninsula reaching into historic McLeod Lake.
This area was once admired by explorer Simon Fraser who established
Fort McLeod on behalf of the North West Trading Company in 1805. This
was the first trading post west of the Rocky Mountains.
The park
is the perfect base from which to explore the area. The surrounding
forest is filled with lush spruce and cottonwood trees and well as a
diverse array of plant life. The nature enthusiast and photographer
will be pleased to discover a variety of interesting wildlife, birds
and waterfowl including a winter colony of trumpeter swans.
LOCATION
The
park is located 130 kilometres north of Prince
George on the Hart Highway #97. It
lies 10 km south of the community of McLeod
Lake and 58 km north of the community of Bear Lake.
PARK
FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Camping
- The campground is located on the sandy point of the peninsula and
features 69 private sites, each containing a picnic table and fire
pits. Nearby are flush toilets, water and wood. The park also provides
a sani-station, a playground, a horseshoe pit, a picnic shelter and
change houses making it an easy place to relax for the day.
Fishing
and Boating - A concrete boat launch is located in the parking
area. Angling for Dolly Varden and rainbow trout in McLeod Lake
may prove rewarding.
Hiking
and Trails - The nature trail loops through the woods to the
campground. On this 20 minute walk you may see squirrels, coyotes
or one of the many species of birds who frequent the park.

FACILITIES
The
communities of Bear Lake and McLeod Lake offer food, gas, accomadation
and other necessary supplies.
